The prequel to the original Dune tells the story of how Rosak’s sister became a Bene Gesserit
Narrative
Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopia, or making the world a better place, these women are the foundation of science fiction. The Great Schools of Dune trilogy is a collection of short stories written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
This spinoff is more like Game of Thrones than Dune
The incident with Valya Harkonnen, using voiceover, is from one called “Mentats of Dune.” All three books relate the evolution of the sisters, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Brush Doctors. That said, Dune: The Prophecy is everything I hoped it would be, and more. It’s a great addition to a beloved film franchise.
I love them both so much that I had high hopes for this series
I should start by saying that I’ve never read the source material or seen the original film. My experience with Dune is based on the two Dune movies that came out in the last few years, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. Those two movies (especially Dune: Part 2) are two of my favorite movies I’ve seen in the last few years.
The show may feel more like Game of Thrones than Dune, but it’s still very entertaining
Dune: Prophecy is a series that takes place 10,000 years before the Dune movies and follows the Harkonnen sisters as they start the Bene Gesserit, fighting against forces that threaten the future of humanity. The most important thing about this show is that it does exactly what it sets out to do, which is to deepen our understanding of the Bene Gesserit. You don’t have to watch both Dune movies to enjoy it, but you’ll definitely enjoy it more if you want to.
